Mechanical speed variators are mechanical component allowing to submit outlet rotation speed to a continuous variation within a certain range while keeping input rotation speed unchanged. The variator is not a gear mechanism, but its rrunning is based on friction disks. The way of operating is equivalent to a planetary unit, although there are no gears in a variator.
SITI mechanical variators are accomplished in 7 different sizes with differente versions: foot-mounting or flange-mounting; PAM version (direct connection to the motor) or with solid input shaft. PAM version is always in B5 variant.
The variators can be equipped with differential device. Fitted downstream of a variator enables the assembly to achieve an outlet speed equal exactly to zero, while inlet is regularly running at the rated inlet speed. Inside the variator assembly, all components are turning and operating in regular running conditionss, except output shaft which is standing still and not turning at all.
In addition to the single variator, there are even variators with gearbox, on which a gearbox is connected downstream with the purpose of reducing speed at the outlet of the assembly and increasing torque. it is always a helical inline gearbox with one reduction stage or with two reduction stage.
There are several possible accessories: remote control (allows adjustment of a variator by a remote control without needing to manually act on the handwheel located on the variator control box), gravitational indicator (a circular device, similar to a clock, which is pressure fitted into the control handwheel cavity; it offers a rough way of measuring speed, but it counts the numbers of tours effected by handwheel during adjustment, not the speed of the variator); speed indicator (it measures directly the speed of the variators)
The mechanical speed variators can be used in different industrial applications, such as: pacakaging machine, wood processing machines, glass processing machines, food industry, bread ovens, paper packing machines, printing installations, industrial automation systems, textile spinning and processing, car washing installations, ceramic plants, silos, recycling installations.
